THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Some teams don’t play as many games as others during the boys basketball pre-season/non-district play. This is the case for the Oak Ridge War Eagles where they have a low record compared to others. Many get their games from tournaments which can make or break the team in that on one hand it helps players bond and get to know each other on the other hand, the players might get gassed and have a difficult time keeping up where it matters.

The 1-2 War Eagles take on the 1-3 Jersey Village Falcons on a Tuesday night non-district game at Oak Ridge High School. Both were pretty even in size but Oak Ridge came out aggressive early which gave them a 7-0 lead. The team looked flawless as they ran up and down the court making plays and defending the drives from the Falcons. The second quarter was a bit different as Jersey Village came out after the whistle and went basket for basket with Oak Ridge eventually giving them a small lead. Oak Ridge seemed to be backing off and making some errors in the back court. With errors comes frustration which is hard to come back from since the War Eagles had exciting first quarter. At the half Jersey Village came back from deficit making the halftime score 26-28.

Coming into the second half, Jersey Village woke up and dominated the paint increasing their lead from Oak Ridge. As they continued to attack the basket, Oak Ridge had a hard time at the other end trying to find the bottom of the net. Although the War Eagle defense was stopping many drives, the Falcons relentlessly attached which came out in favor of Jersey Village. One main thing that hurt the War Eagles was the lack of rebounds after the shot. Without any rebounds it was inevitable that the score was not going to go up. Jersey Village ran the score up but towards the end in the 4th quarter Oak Ridge snapped out of it and made a run to get the lead back. Time wasn’t on their side and as the final buzzer rang the score ended 52-57 with a Jersey Village victory.
