THE WOODLANDS, TX – Texas Dow Employees Credit Union (TDECU) recently held a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony at its new location in Market Street. Now only did a sizable crowd show up for live music, refreshments, raffles, tours, and information, but there was another draw that scored a touchdown for the attendees. Football legends Warren Moon, Vince Young, and Andre Ware were guests of honor.

Warren Moon, Andre Ware, and Vince Young tout company’s commitment to community

Michael O’Neill, director of public relations for TDECU. Gave a brief history of the credit union. “Back in 1955, several employees of Dow Chemical Company put together the credit union in the spirit of the power of community,” he said. “Company legend says the first order of business was to allow an employee to buy a refrigerator, but even if that’s apocryphal, it highlights the commitment to the community and caring for people to achieve their financial dreams that TDECU is renowned for.”

Isaac Johnson, president and CEO of TDECU, was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony, and also received a special recognition by JJ Hollie, president and CEO of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce. After the ribbon was cut, Patti Smith, vice president of communications for the Houston Sports Authority, introduced and turned the microphone over to former Houston Oilers quarterback Warren Moon, 1989 Heisman Trophy winner and former Houston Cougar quarterback Andre Ware, and former Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young. The three football legends discussed the impact of TDECU on the community, in particular the upcoming Brothers in Arms charity golf tournament.

Despite the name of the credit union being named after a particular corporation, you can attain membership and open an account merely by living, working, or worshiping in The Woodlands.

“This branch is officially known as The Woodlands Six Pines Member Center,” said O’Neill. This represents our new design; instead of walking up to a teller separated from you by thick glass, we actually have chairs where people can sit down with our team members and talk about their financial needs and journeys.” The cozy interior also features a large seating area and a coffee bar.

O’Neill extends an invitation for Woodlands area residents to pay a visit to the new office at 9595 Six Pines Drive right next door to the H-E-B at Market Street.

“We are the largest credit union in the Houston area and the fourth largest in Texas. This opening represents a great expansion into an area where we saw a lot of growth,” said O’Neill. “We hope to see you come in soon.”
