Sign, electioneering regulations reminder:

In September 2020, Montgomery County commissioners approved a resolution enacting reasonable regulations concerning time, place and manner of electioneering at early voting locations within the Precinct 3 boundaries at that time.

Those regulations state:

1. Signs, stakes and other potentially sharp objects should be designed using a flat base or may utilize wire/aluminum stakes no greater than 1/4 inch in diameter to avoid damaging underground water lines or high-voltage electrical lines.

2. Signs, stakes and other potentially sharp objects may only be erected on the day(s) when polling is taking place.

3. All signs, stakes and other potentially sharp objects must be removed by no later than 8 a.m. on the morning immediately following the day the polls closed.

4. Signage, stakes and other potentially sharp objects not timely removed may be subject to immediate removal and discarding of by County personnel. No compensation or reimbursement will occur and owners of said signs, stakes or other potentially sharp objects may be subject to any and all civil or criminal fines as prescribed by law.

5. Individuals distributing signs or literature or present in support of a candidate should remain out of the flow of traffic and avoid blocking vehicles attempting to park, leave, or advance through the parking lot.

6. Except as otherwise provided by law, anyone found violating the above regulations may be subject to prosecution of a Class C misdemeanor.
