HOUSTON, TX -- The Lone Star College System Board of Trustees selected Michael Stoma to serve as Chair of the Board during the Workshop and Regular meeting held Dec. 13. Stoma represents District 1 in the Lone Star College System.

“I am honored to have been selected to serve as Board Chair,” said Stoma. “I look forward to working with Dr. Head and my fellow board members to make sure our students continue to have access to exceptional educational opportunities.”

Other officer positions appointed by the board were Art Murillo, Vice Chair (District 4); Mike Sullivan, Secretary (District 8); and Jim Cain, Ed.D., Assistant Secretary (District 9).

“Lone Star College System Board of Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the Lone Star College is an integral part of their communities and serve their ever-changing needs,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC Chancellor. “I know working together we will carry on our mission of providing affordable, high quality education.”

Board members are elected as representatives of nine single-member districts by citizens in the Lone Star College in-district service area in November of even-numbered years and serve terms of six years each. LSC trustees serve staggered terms – three of nine trustees come up for election every two years – so that there are always experienced members sitting on the board.

Lone Star College enrolls over 80,000 students each semester providing high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education. LSC is training tomorrow’s workforce today and redefining the community college experience to support student success. Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., serves as chancellor of LSC, the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area and has been named a 2022 Great Colleges to Work For® institution by the Chronicle of Higher Education, ranked 35th in Texas in the Forbes ‘America’s Best Employers By State’ list and recognized by Fortune Magazine and Great Place To Work® as one of this year’s Best Workplaces in Texas™. LSC consists of eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence and Lone Star Corporate College. To learn more, visit LoneStar.edu.
