Conroe ISD Proudly Announces its 2025 Teachers of the Year
CONROE, TX -- Conroe ISD announced its 2025 Teachers of the Year at the annual Salute to Education celebration Tuesday evening. Jayna Smith Ferguson from Tough Elementary was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Suzanne Rogers from York Junior High was named the Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Ferguson is a fourth grade English Language Arts teacher in her 17th year as an educator. She has a deep love for reading and is proud of her historical fiction unit which helps students identify with characters who encourage them to believe in their own value and help them find their voice. Ferguson has grown her leadership skills by being a life-long learner and has a personal sense of vision, collaboration, and knowledge she models for her students and fellow teachers.
Rogers is a seventh and eighth grade English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher also in her 17th year. She developed York’s ESL plan to group students by language proficiency, instead of grade level, and assimilate advanced students into on grade level English-speaking courses. Rogers values her argumentative unit for its ability to help students learn soft skills, such as listening to understand, mutual respect, tone of voice, and body language.
Ferguson and Rogers are now eligible for Region 6 and State Teacher of the Year honors. Last year, Caney Creek High School’s Stephen Green was named Region 6 Secondary Teacher of the Year.
