THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center is excited to welcome Red the Cardinal to our Backyard Aviary. Red is a rehabbed wild bird; permanent damage to her wing means she cannot be released into the wild.

Like many song birds, cardinals eat a variety of berries, seeds and insects in the wild. Attracting songbirds like Red to your own yard is very easy. Planting native plants, providing a water source, and reducing your use of pesticides are simple steps that create great backyard habitats. Just make sure to change the water at least once a week to deter mosquitoes.

Visitors can come see Red in the center’s new backyard aviary with her housemates the bobwhite quails, ring-necked doves, and three-toed box turtles.

Additional Nature Center happenings before the New Year include Critter Chat on Tuesday, December 27 at 2 p.m., an All about Edible Plants Presentation on Wednesday, December 28 at 2 p.m., and Critter Chat on Friday, December 30 at 10 a.m.

The Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center is located at 1300 Riley Fuzzel Road. Those interested can follow the Nature Center on Facebook to keep up with any news or check out our website at www.scgnaturecenter.org.
