THE WOODLANDS, TX – As Januaries go, this one hasn’t been too bad; the weather has been moderate, the insulation on your outdoor pipes hasn’t really had to be tested, and many who bought flood insurance for this season are maybe (but shouldn’t, better to be safe than sorry) regretting their decision. As we begin to shift gears into February, the weather this week has decided to play nice… for the most part.

Whether it’s a day of cloudy rains or sunny chill, you’ll want your jackets this week

Your Monday will be bright and cool, with nary a cloud in the sky until close to sundown. Moderate winds out of the east and a dropping humidity will make even the most dedicated of office workers look longingly out the window. As the morning progresses, the temps will slowly but surely rise through the 40s and 50s until it hits an early afternoon high of 62 before turning on its heel and rapidly heading back down into the 40s.

Overnight, however, things will change and drastically so. The clouds will blitz into the area to blot out the moon and stars, bringing with them a lot of rain. As the day progresses, it’ll be nigh impossible to check out the sun through the storm clouds, and the winds massively kicking in certainly won’t help matters. It’s expected to dump up to a half an inch of the wet stuff in a single hour, so exercise caution on the roads. The rains, winds, and temperature – the latter being a high of 63 – will hit their peak in the early afternoon and then begin to dwindle for a relatively quiet Tuesday night with lows in the upper 30s into Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, the primary reminder of Tuesday’s rains will be the spatter on your windshields kicked up by the cars in front of you. A cloudy morning will give way to a brighter afternoon, but the still-brisk winds and late-to-arrive high of 56 will make this one chilly day that looks a lot better than it feels. Fortunately, come nightfall, all the bad stuff – chance of rains, clouds, temps, winds, et al – will resolve to a quiet night in the mid 30s under starry skies.

Thursday will be a much better day of the week with only minor cloud coverage and wind strengths that are barely half of what they had been the previous couple of days. Sunny skies and drying streets, combined with a temperature range that will settle for a high in the mid 50s, will make for better moods and event possibilities. But be warned the overnight low will dip perilously close to the freezing point.

The work week will end on a similar note, but slightly warmer and more cloudy. Unfortunately, this is a presage to a stormy weekend and next-week. The high today will make it all the way up to 60 under mounting clouds and dropping pressure that will bring a lot of storming with it…

Stay tuned on Friday as we bring you Woodlands Weekend Weather.
