THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Tya Gonsalves, a senior at The John Cooper School, traveled to South Africa to compete in the first-ever ICC (International Cricket Council) Women’s Under-19 T20 Cricket World Cup. Gonsalves represented Team USA as they made their first World Cup appearance in ICC cricket.
“The experience was once in a lifetime. Being with the team taught me how to trust others, leave all things aside, and focus on the game,” said Gonsalves.
“The John Cooper School has been especially supportive this year with managing school and sports. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my peers and teachers.”
The competition began this past January 14, concluded on January 29 with India taking home the World Cup.
“I was lucky to have one of my catches during the game against Scotland featured on ICC’s main page. The whole field erupted when I took it, and the moment remains in my heart.”
