THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Christian Academy Biotech Team competed in the SCI://TECH Biotechnology Competition at Lone Star College. With 134 students from eight area high schools, including science and engineering academies, students competed in pairs using DNA technology to solve a real-world problem. Students had to determine the identity of a microbe that contaminated the water supply and infected 10 people at a sustainable living apartment complex. The TWCA team dominated the competition, taking home 5 of the 9 awards.

“I am so proud of our Biotech Team because the students put in so much time and work preparing for the competition. Our students not only knew their content and skills, but they were able to collaborate well with each other and effectively troubleshoot in lab,” said Mrs. Jessica McKenny, faculty sponsor and teacher. “I feel blessed to work with a group of students that have come to feel like family to me. They work so diligently and I am thrilled that their efforts paid off!”

Most of the students are currently enrolled in Biotechnology & Principles of Bioengineering or AP Biology. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a science internship program, giving them a significant advantage over other schools in the area.

Woodlands Christian offers a rigorous academic program with college preparation starting in 8th grade and SAT/ACT test prep for 9th-11th grade. One hundred percent of graduating seniors are admitted to colleges or universities. Woodlands Christian is now enrolling grades PreK - 12th (waitlists in some grades) for the 2023-2024 school year.
