THE WOODLANDS – It may feel hard to believe that it’s only been 41 days and nights since you woke up post-Mardi Gras celebration, but last night Lent – the period of reflection and self-sacrifice on the Christian calendar – ended and we’re now at Easter Weekend. Whether or not you celebrate or commemorate the Easter season, you’ll still want to know things you can do and places you can go this weekend. Fortunately for you, Woodlands Online has some tips for those seeking Easter events.

Good Friday

Heads up; it’s a school holiday, but not a bank holiday today. Since it isn’t a federal holiday, many businesses and most banks will be open. Additionally, several restaurants will have special Easter and Lent-themed meals. Fielding’s Local Kitchen + Bar is serving a special fish meal, for example.

Numerous churches and houses of worship are offering Good Friday services, most of them around lunchtime and in the evenings as well. Some of them include The Ridge Community Church, The Woodlands Church, Grace Presbyterian Church, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, and more that are listed in our Easter Guide. The Woodlands Methodist Church had been planning a special Community Good Friday Service outdoors at Northshore Park, but due to inclement weather, it’s been moved to inside the church’s sanctuary indoors.

The township and local businesses are offering family-friendly activities today. There is an Easter Egg Scramble for all ages at Rob Fleming Rec Center. At Painting With a Twist, family members of all ages can come in and paint The Easter Child in what could best be described as ‘The Star Wars Easter Holiday Special.’

Holy Saturday (aka Easter Vigil)

Over at the Holcomb Family YMCA – a unique outdoors-only version of the community center – there will be a Community Easter Egg Hunt thoughtfully split up into age groups. The Learning Zoo is offering special Easter Saturday hours for the young biologists in your family. The Woodlands Township is offering a special Easter Three-fer: an All-Age Egg Scramble, an afternoon Egg-stravaganza for all, and – for the adventurers – a Kayak Egg Hunt. Meanwhile, The Woodlands Children’s Museum will host a day’s worth of EggTivities.

Several churches are going beyond their normal Easter Weekend services. Grace Presbyterian will host a Community Egg Hunt and Brunch. Not to be outdone, The Woodlands Methodist Church will present a Helicopter Egg Drop as part of its Children’s Easter Celebration.

Easter Sunday

While a whole host of restaurants will be offering Easter Brunches, you might want to be sure to call in to your favorites to make reservations if you can, because they’re guaranteed to be hopping. A sampling of bruncheries includes Margaritaville Lake Resort - Lake Conroe, Federal American Grill, Back Table Kitchen & Bar, Sorriso Modern Italian Kitchen, Fielding’s Local and Fielding’s Wood Grill, and Dosey Doe Breakfast, BBQ, & Whiskey Bar.

For unique Easter services, several churches have thought outside the box. The Woodlands First Baptist is hosting Easter at The Pavilion. Over at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, after their services they’re presenting a fundraiser brunch to raise money for their youth ministry’s upcoming trip to Washington, DC. The Woodlands Methodist is holding family-friendly outdoor worship service at The Church at Woodforest Campus - Woodforest Lawn.
