The Rotary Club of The Woodlands joins with Barnes & Noble to highlight 100 Top Books

THE WOODLANDS, TX — To celebrate its 50th anniversary in May, the Rotary Club of The Woodlands is joining with The Woodlands Barnes & Noble to promote reading with a display table highlighting a list of the top 100 books selected by local Rotarians.
Club President Denton Florian came up with the idea as a way to stress the importance of reading and demonstrate the influence that the club’s members have had on The Woodlands.
“Leaders are readers,” Florian said. The club’s membership over the years has featured a member of Congress, Texas legislators, the Woodlands Township Board members, members of Conroe ISD Board, Montgomery County elected officials, numerous Woodlands Hometown Heroes, and a number of other local business and government leaders.
“I’m very interested in what people are reading; we have so many people in the Rotary Club who are leaders in the community – we have more than 20 hometown heroes for example - and whenever I run into people like that, I always wonder what they’re reading.”
Originally the club was just going to have a list of 50 top books, but after getting more than 140 books suggested by the club members, they whittled it down to the Top 100.
Many of the books are bestsellers, and club members nominated books across a variety of genres, including biographies, novels, business, nonfiction and many others.
Dan Boles, store manager of The Woodlands Barnes & Noble at The Woodlands Mall, welcomed the opportunity to showcase the books, which will be located on the store’s first floor near the information desk toward the front entrance.
“It’s being a part of the local community which is what we strive to do - to support those in our community. And besides, that’s always our goal to get people interested in books anyway we can!”
The display will feature a display table, a representative sample of books along with a sign and QR code where visitors can pull up the complete list of 100 books.
