THE WOODLANDS, TX – The annual Wine & Food Week celebration hit The Woodlands Waterway Marriott this past Wednesday evening for a special fine-dining event: Wine Around the World Wednesday.

Wine and Food Week gives attendees a passport to fine food and drink

This special event premiered last year, but this time around it really came into its own. ‘Tour groups’ of attendees were given special color-coded wristbands and were guided by an expert to six different rooms – each one representing a different country around the globe – for about 20 minutes each to sample that nation’s food and native wines. The countries represented were Bulgaria, Spain, Greece, Italy, Australia, and Argentina.

Constance McDerby, co-founder and event producer of Wine and Food Week, was delighted at the turnout to the event.

“Wine around the World Wednesday was a new concept we did after Covid last year; in our mission to make wine more approachable, we wanted people to discover some grapes and wines that they may otherwise not want to buy an entire bottle of because they don’t know about the taste or even the pronunciation. We wanted to take away the intimidation, and keep it fun,” she said in an exclusive interview with Woodlands Online. “It’s like speed dating, but here they get to sample the flavors from eating and drinking that country’s offering, then it’s off to the next country until they rotate through all six. After that, they get to revisit their favorites. Each room is also staffed with a high-level expert who also gives presentations. It’s not intended to be a dining-out experience; it’s more a mini-immersion into the country in a discovery experience.”

Wine & Food Week is an annual Woodlands area event that showcases the best the area has to offer in delectables and libations. Other events this week include Rosé Way: A Sweet Soiree at The Peach Orchard on Thursday evening, the Ladies of the Vine Luncheon at The Club at Carlton Woods on Friday, and Sip, Suds, & Savor at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott that evening, and the esteemed Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting & Chef Showcase: An Extraordinary Experience at the Marriott Saturday evening, hand in hand with the Bayway Cadillac of The Woodlands VIP Luxury Lounge. The week is wrapped up with the La Dolce Vita Sparkling Brunch at Sorriso Italian Kitchen on Sunday morning.
