THE WOODLANDS, TX – We need to start off this weekend weather report with the announcement that the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the area through 9 o’clock Saturday evening, but chances are it’ll be extended.

It’s definitely not jacket weather

During this advisory period, heat index values can reach up to 112 degrees. Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, OSHA recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911 if needed.

With this alert out of the way, let’s get to the actual details of this weekend’s weather.

As we stumble through Friday, we still haven’t hit our high for the day, which will be 101 degrees (112 with the humidity index factored in) shortly before quitting time. The pressure is about to plummet, and with it what small cloud cover we had. Winds out of the south reaching up to 10 mph will feel warm and moist, so expect no relief from any caressing breezes. Overnight there will be a turnaround in the pressure and we’ll enjoy some clouds wandering through in the early morning hours, which will hit a low of 78.

Saturday will be blisteringly hot, with a ‘natural high’ of 102 that would reduce most people to blubbering masses even without adding several degrees of humidity. The winds and clouds will stay at a minimum, and our low once again will be 78, which means that for the most part your AC won’t stop running for 24 hours straight unless you make thermostat-related sacrifices.

On Sunday, it’ll be more of the same. Rising pressure will bring a few clouds along with it but even then there won’t be much relief from the sun. The high may ‘only’ get up to 99, but that pesky humidity will keep adding to the heat index. With another overnight low of 78, as you prepare for another work week, know that we have several more days ahead that are exactly like this weekend, so be prepared…
