THE WOODLANDS, TX – As we edge ever so closer to the official start of summer – a mere two weeks away – the hot spells are already hitting the area. Fortunately, we won’t have to worry about triple-digit high temperatures for a little while longer (not counting the heat index, which is another problem altogether), but it might not be a bad idea to find some stuff to do this weekend that is friendly to your body in the summer heat.

For the rest of your Friday, the mercury will keep falling steadily from our high of 95 (with an extra 12 degrees thrown into the ‘feels like’ category thanks to the humidity), but we won’t get down into the 70s until well after midnight. All evening long some winds from the south will cool our brows, but the clouds are rapidly dissipating, leaving up with a portion of tonight under starry skies and a three-quarters full moon. Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a Moonlight Paddle from the Riva Row Boathouse; one- and two-man kayaks, all lit up, are available for rental.

Saturday morning will see some more clouds, maybe a light sprinkle of rain, but by the afternoon the heat and humidity will be in full force, soothed only by some breezes getting up to 10 miles per hour. There are few things cooler than jazz, and The Blue Lion Pub has the perfect night set up for you. Experience an unforgettable evening at their Jazz Night featuring five acclaimed musicians from Austin. Enjoy a soulful candlelight performance paired with a specially curated prix fixe dinner.

In advance of a rising pressure front hitting us next week, your Sunday will be the warmest yet, with a natural high temperature of 97 degrees and a heat index of 106. Again, sporadic cloud cover and some warm droplets of rain might add to the humid misery, and the winds will even be smaller, not doing much to minimize the stifling heat. If you must venture out for a brunch, may we suggest you hit Ale & Ivy for their with-a-twist Singo-Bingo Brunch – a lively twist on your favorite game, set to the beats of your favorite songs. They’ll have a live DJ spinning all your favorite hits, prizes up for grabs, brunch bites, and craft cocktails all while playing bingo on steroids.

As the weekend draws to a close, be comforted that a cooling trend will begin, along with thunderstorms, heavy clouds, and temps in the 80s, giving us a week of heat reprieve before that last push to summer…
