THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held a regular meeting on Thursday, August 17, 2023. The Board reviewed and discussed topics including a proclamation for National Farmers Market Week, the recognition of the Township's Neighborhood Services division receiving an award, the review of the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) 2023 Triennial Review of The Woodlands Township Transit Program and a quarterly update from Visit the Woodlands.

The Board opened the meeting with a proclamation recognizing National Farmers Market Week. National Farmers Market Week is an annual celebration that shines a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of farmers markets to local communities. National Farmers Market Week is celebrated in the month of August each year and The Woodlands Farmer's Market at Grogan's Mill was included in the proclamation. The Woodlands Farmer's Market at Grogan's Mill was established in 2008 as a weekly event sponsored by the Grogan's Mill Village Association in an effort to revitalize the Grogan's Mill Village Center. The market is held on Saturdays at the Grogan's Mill Village Center, located at 7 Switchbud Place, The Woodlands, TX. More information about The Woodlands Farmers Market can be found on their website at www.grogansmill.org/fmabout.

During the President's Report, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Monique Sharp shared with the Board an award received by the Township's Neighborhood Services division. The Township's Neighborhood Services division earned an Outstanding Crime Prevention Award for its remarkable crime prevention programming and efforts within The Woodlands community. These programs are made possible in partnership with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit.

In addition, during the President's Report, Ms. Sharp informed the Board that the Township's Director of Technology and Innovation William Pham was appointed to the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program Committee. The State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program provides funding to eligible entities to address cybersecurity risks and threats to information systems owned or operated by, or on behalf of, state, local or tribal governments. Chairman Dr. Ann K. Snyder stated, 'Mr. Pham is an incredible asset to the Township's technology team and serves on the Township's Executive Leadership Team.”

On the Regular Agenda, the Board reviewed and accepted the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) 2023 Triennial Review of The Woodlands Township Transit Program.

Chairman Snyder said, 'The report from the FTA found no findings or discrepancies with the Township's Transit program, and also the reviewers noted that the Township was the first agency to receive a clean review.'

The Board received a quarterly update from Visit the Woodlands, the Township's Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), presented by the CVB President Nick Wolda. Township Director Brad Bailey serves as the Chairman of the Visit the Woodlands Board of Directors and discussed the CVB's strategic planning and initiatives while also highlighting the Township's increased sales and hotel occupancy tax.

On the Consent Agenda, which consists of routine housekeeping items that do not require Board discussion, the Board received reports from Community Services and The Woodlands Fire Department, approved a request from Entergy to replace existing infrastructure along various easements within the Township's open space reserves, Cochran's Crossing and sections of Panther Creek.
