Lone Star College-University Park alum finds success in the newsroom

HOUSTON, TX -- In honor of National Transfer Week, Lone Star College-University Park (LSC-University Park) celebrates the success of transfer students like Tyler Hoskins, who have transitioned to four-year universities to continue their academic journey.

Hoskins grew up in Tomball, Texas, with aspirations to join the journalistic landscape he admired on Houston's local news broadcasts. LSC-University Park served as a launching pad for his journalist dreams. Today, Hoskins is employed as a multimedia journalist at KBTX, a local TV station in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

Hoskins credits LSC-University Park for helping pave his path to success. "I couldn't have done it without them,” said Hoskins. “Choosing Lone Star College was the perfect steppingstone for me to achieve my dream of becoming a TV journalist."

While enrolled at LSC-University Park, Hoskins excelled academically and developed a robust network with both faculty and peers. "The faculty and staff at LSC-University Park were very supportive, and they helped me get the credits I needed to transfer to Texas A&M University," he stated.

In 2021, Hoskins graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and minors in communication and sports management. He worked as a freelance reporter for the Bryan-College Station newspaper, The Eagle, before securing a position at CBS affiliate KBTX-TV 3. “I'm passionate about journalism, and I'm excited to use my skills to help people,” Hoskins said. He now covers a variety of topics in the Brazos Valley and serves as the station's weekend producer."

Hoskins encourages other students to consider attending a community college and taking dual credit classes in high school. “I am grateful for the opportunities that Lone Star College-University Park gave me, along with the support of my family and friends, who helped me through my journey,” he affirmed.

LSC-University Park offers more than 70 programs of study, including credit and non-credit courses, workforce training, and continuing education classes. Classes can be taken during the day, evenings, and weekends in traditional, online, and hybrid formats.
