THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Results from the week of January 7

Dragons Open Winter Conference Play

1/9 vs. Kinkaid* • 42-34 W

1/12 vs St. Thomas High School • 65-57 W

Coach Matthew Wilson: This was a terrific week for the Dragons. We opened conference play with a home victory against Kinkaid. It marked the first time the Dragons have defeated Kinkaid in consecutive years since 2006. We closed the week with another home contest, facing perennial TAPPS powerhouse, St. Thomas High School. The boys fended off a late rally to complete a clinical defensive effort.

January 20 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal*, 12:30 p.m.

1/9 vs. Kinkaid* • 83-18 L

January 20 at St. Stephens Episcopal*, 11 a.m.

1/10 vs. Kinkaid* • 3-0 L

1/11 at Concordia Lutheran • 1-0 L

Coach Fri Engel: We started conference play on Wednesday with a 3-0 loss to Kinkaid. The girls played their best game of the season and kept the score close. We are very proud of the girls’ effort and attitude. Alexia Kuvshinikov had an outstanding performance in goal. We concluded our non-conference schedule with an unfortunate 1-0 loss against Concordia Lutheran on Thursday. We could not replicate the high energy of the previous game and had difficulties creating chances offensively. We look forward to the road trip to Austin next week and keep working hard to get our next win.

Next up for Dragon Girls Soccer:

January 19 at St. Andrews Episcopal*

January 20 at St. Stephens Episcopal*

1/9 vs Kinkaid* • 1-0 W
Goal by Jaime Quintana

1/12 vs Concordia Lutheran • 6-0 W
Goals by Jamie Quintana (3), JJ Groppe, Vikram Kansal, Michael Tang

Coach Bryan Sherman: The team had a great week with a win over rival Kinkaid and a big win over Concordia Lutheran. We hope to continue this trend next week as we have two tough conference counter matches in Austin against St. Andrews and St. Stephen’s.

Next up for Dragon Boys Soccer:

January 19 at St. Andrews Episcopal*, 7 p.m.

January 20 at St. Stephens Episcopal*, 1 p.m.

1/13 at HAPPI (Houston Area Private & Parochial Invitational)

Coach John Vindiola: The Dragon Swim and Dive team competed at the 20th Annual HAPPI Meet on Saturday.

Divers Morgan Robson and Diego Burgos both won their events, with Robson setting a new school high-point record with a score of 495.8.

Monica Ianeva placed 2nd in the 200 IM, and 1st in the 100 Butterfly. The Girls 200 Medley Relay, (Kyleigh Jeter, Ella Britt, Ianeva, Maddie Wang) finished 5th. The Girls Freestyle Relay (Wang, Lexie FitzSullivan, Ianeva, Jeter) finished 7th, Ella Britt finished 1st in the 500 Freestyle, and Alexander Harris finished 8th for the boys in the 100 Backstroke.

The Dragon women finished 6th out of 18 teams, which is a great performance.

We recognized seniors Alexander Harris, Kyleigh Jeter, and Morgan Robson for their contributions to The John Cooper School as members of the swim and dive team.

I was most proud of the support and cheering that all the Dragons participated in all day.

The Dragons are back in action on January 27th, at the SPC South Zone Championship.
