THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Residents and businesses of The Woodlands are invited to the annual Township Emergency Preparedness Event on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This family-friendly event will prepare attendees with important knowledge on how to prepare for hurricanes and other emergencies.

The safety and well-being of our community are paramount, particularly in times of crisis. With informative workshops and presentations from organizations such as CenterPoint and The National Weather Service, alongside valuable resources from various community resources and volunteer groups, participants will have the opportunity to craft personalized emergency plans to safeguard themselves and their loved ones. Join us at The Woodlands Township as we take proactive steps toward preparedness.

Presentation schedule:

  • 11 a.m. Pierce Prater from CenterPoint will provide insights into emergency preparedness and restoration procedures.
  • 11:30 a.m. Jeff Evans, Meteorologist from the National Weather Service, will unveil weather predictions for 2024, discuss weather patterns, potential hazards, and offer tips for weather-related emergency preparedness, as well as resources for monitoring local weather.
  • 12:00 p.m. Jason Washington, Battalion Chief - Emergency Preparedness from The Woodlands Fire Department, will guide attendees on creating emergency kits, developing family communications plans, preparation considerations, and accessing resources before, during, and after an emergency.

This event isn't just for adults! Younger residents are encouraged to participate and learn about their role in preparedness through engaging in activities such as Hands-Only CPR, creating their own first aid kits, using fire extinguishers, and simulating 9-1-1 calls to familiarize themselves with potential emergency scenarios. This year, we're adding a scavenger hunt for our younger visitors, with prizes for those who complete the hunt by visiting key participants and completing associated tasks.

Generous sponsors have donated items for this year's raffle, offering attendees the chance to win fantastic prizes including a portable generator from Lowe’s, Red Cross first aid kits, gift baskets from H-E-B and America's ER, fire extinguishers, and smoke detectors. Remember, you don't have to be present to win after entering the raffle.
