CONROE, TX -- Several organizations came out to support the Lone Star Honor Flight Veterans Group this past Wednesday bringing the most important meal of the day, breakfast, and cookies. to share with The Veterans. What’s not to love about that? Girl Scout Troop 108031, from The Woodlands area, during their cookie sales, always asks patrons if they would like to purchase a box for The Veterans Group. The Conroe Service League, which brought a potluck breakfast for The Veterans, serves the group several times per year on Patriotic, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the odd 5th Wednesday of the month. The CSL seeks to serve the community needs through their organization with a retail shop, The Bargain Box, as well as an eye and visual screening for preschoolers, providing Baby Bundles for new mothers at HCA Conroe Hospital, annual scholarships, and so many other programs.

“We love when the Girl Scouts and Conroe Service League come out,” said George Waters, a 102 year old Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Waters was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress that was shot down over Germany in early 1944.

Troop 108031 brought 175 boxes to the event, and the cookie-mad Veterans snapped them up, no doubt contributing to higher blood sugars across Montgomery County. It was a loving gesture by Troop 108031, and it is always special when the girls come out to see the Veterans, making special memories for them and The Veterans along the way. The Veterans are very appreciative of all the organizations that attend to them every Wednesday. The meeting itself is a therapy session for Veterans to keep them on the right side of sanity, and they really enjoy meeting each week, laughing and joking, and looking forward to the next week.
