A Message to the Community from the Board of Directors
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Dear Residents of The Woodlands,
As we reflect on the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, we are reminded of the resilience and strength of our community. This Category 1 hurricane made landfall on the Texas coast at 4 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, and swiftly moved through our region, hitting The Woodlands around 7 a.m. with its most intense winds felt at 10 a.m. Unlike the prolonged deluge of Hurricane Harvey, Beryl passed through quickly, leaving our area by the early evening. Nevertheless, its impact was profound.
Our community, nestled within a natural forest, faced significant damage due to the high winds. The trees, already stressed from last summer's severe drought, bore the brunt of the storm, resulting in widespread power outages reminiscent of Hurricane Ike in 2008. Both Entergy and CenterPoint have been working tirelessly to restore power, and we are in constant communication with them, as well as with Harris and Montgomery counties.
We understand the challenges of enduring these hot summer days without electricity, losing perishable food and the overall discomfort it brings. However, let us remain patient and supportive of the linemen and essential personnel who are away from their own families, dedicating themselves to restoring our services. Our Township employees and county workers have also been on the front lines, working around the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
Our parks crews are now out in force, assessing and addressing the damage to our beloved parks, pools, pathways and playgrounds. The cleanup and repair efforts will take some time, but we are committed to restoring these vital amenities.
As we move forward, we urge everyone to come together, help your neighbors and demonstrate the unity that defines The Woodlands. The counties will handle storm debris removal according to their protocols, and the Township will support these efforts, providing updates and information to our residents. Please remember to place storm debris curbside, separating yard and vegetative debris from construction debris.
In times like these, the spirit of our community shines brightest. We are confident that by working together, we can overcome the challenges ahead and emerge stronger.
Sincerely,
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors
