Meals on Wheels Montgomery County benefits from 'WES is More' Golf Classic in partnership with Western Midstream
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Recently The Woodlands Country Club played host to a special fundraising golf tournament. Western Midstream, a local energy company, chose Meals on Wheels Montgomery County as the beneficiary of the inaugural ‘WES is More’ event. Before the first swing was even taken, more than $600,000 was raised for Meals on Wheels, with more to come.
Nearly 190 golfers joined 90 Western Midstream volunteers and more than a dozen Meals on Wheels volunteers for the event, which boasted 81 sponsors. Celebrity participants include Trevor Immelman, former Masters Champion, Presidents Cup Captain, and lead analyst for CBS; Marc Bulger, former NFL Quarterback for the St. Louis Rams; and PGA Professional Golfer Bronson Burgoon.
“One of our passionate employees approached us about hosting a golf tournament to benefit the community, and we ran with it. That impetus behind the Golf Classic directly reflects our outreach philosophy, which provides a per-hour matching donation behind an employee’s volunteerism at a non-profit organization,” said Michael Ure, President and CEO of Western Midstream.
Carrie Watkins, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels Montgomery County, was thrilled at the scope and scale of the event. “This is actually a tremendous blessing for Meals on Wheels; being the beneficiary for this inaugural golf tournament has been probably one of the biggest gifts we’ve ever received. This is going to have an extremely big impact on the lives of many seniors in our community and the amount of meals that we will be able to produce for them,” she said.
Ure agreed with the need for such fundraising activities to assist the nonprofit organization. “Meals on Wheels plays such an important role to our neighbors in Montgomery County, and I, along with my WES colleagues, are so deeply appreciative of our turnout and the benefit that the tournament will have on their mission,” he said. “Not only is this a great networking opportunity for our players and sponsors, but it’s such an easy way to give back to our community while also enjoying our area’s strong and vibrant culture of community.”
