Uber Driver Arrested for Sexual Assault in The Woodlands; Authorities Seek Additional Victims

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- On April 28, 2025, Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Persons Crimes Unit under the Violent Crimes Division, initiated an investigation into a reported sexual assault involving an adult female near Market Street in The Woodlands, Texas.

During the investigation, Detectives identified the suspect as 56-year-old Janaka Manatunga, from Conroe, TX, who was an Uber driver operating in the Montgomery County area. Manatunda was subsequently arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of Sexual Assault.

The ongoing investigation has revealed concerns that there may be additional victims who experienced inappropriate sexual contact while utilizing Manatunga’s rideshare services. Detectives are asking for any individuals who may have experienced similar sexual contact involving Manatunga to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division at 936-760-5876, and refer to case #25A125275.
