This prestigious award is a testament to their dedication, integrity, and consistent commitment to delivering exceptional financial guidance to their clients.

According to Five Star Professional, to receive the Five Star Wealth Manager award, a wealth manager must satisfy 10 objective eligibility and evaluation criteria that are associated with wealth managers who provide quality services to their clients. Factors taken into account include assets under management and client retention rate. Candidates are nominated in various ways and undergo a thorough regulatory and complaint review before they are considered for the award.

Five Star Professional is the largest and most widely published award program in the financial services industry. Five Star Wealth Managers are honored by the selection as a reflection of their hard work and dedication.

This marks the eleventh year (2014-2017, 2019-2025) that Stephen Bauer, CFP®, CRPC®, Managing Director of the United Capital Financial Advisors team in The Woodlands, has achieved the status as a Five Star Wealth Manager, and the second year (2024-2025) that Reid Guthrie, CFP®, Wealth Advisor at United Capital in The Woodlands has earned the award.

The Five Star Wealth Manager award will be featured in an upcoming issue of Texas Monthly, celebrating this year’s honorees across the state.

As Managing Director, Stephen Bauer, CFP®, CRPC®, is responsible for developing financial plans and offering guidance and advice to clients at United Capital Financial Advisors. He joined The Woodlands’ office of United Capital (then Ameriprise Financial) in 2013 as a Wealth Advisor. Under Bauer’s leadership, The Woodlands office of United Capital Financial Advisors recently won “Best Wealth Manager and Financial Advisor” among the Woodlands Online “Best of The Woodlands 2025” voting contest.*

Bauer is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional and Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer Economics and Finance. Active in the community and a supporter of several local charities, Bauer is an active member of The Woodlands Rotary Club and the United Way Greater Houston Montgomery County Council. He and his wife, Lisa, reside in The Woodlands with their young sons, Luke and Ben. Bauer enjoys spending much of his time coaching his sons’ football, baseball, or soccer teams.

In his role as Wealth Advisor, Reid Guthrie, CFP®, is responsible for providing detailed financial planning, investment management, and guidance to clients. He has a passion for creating lasting relationships and focuses on providing an exceptional client experience.

Before joining United Capital, Guthrie worked as the Director of Financial Planning for a wealth management firm in San Antonio, Texas. He was instrumental in onboarding, presenting, and implementing the outcomes of each client’s financial plan. Guthrie has a degree in Financial Planning from Texas Tech University and holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation.

Guthrie resides in The Woodlands with his wife Kaci, their daughter Vivianne, and their dog Margie. In his free time, he enjoys time with family, golfing, fishing, and being active in his community.
