THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Students from The John Cooper School are participating in the 2025 Global Education Program study-abroad initiative through the prestigious MedScience program at Harvard Medical School in Boston, engaging in an extraordinary academic experience.

“This program provides students with a unique opportunity to explore medicine in a hands-on, immersive setting,” said Ms. Rebecca Arocha, Upper School Anatomy and Biology Teacher. “It’s inspiring to see them gain confidence, ask insightful questions, and envision their future paths.”

Throughout the program, Cooper Dragons are engaged in high-level medical simulations, diagnosing and treating complex patient scenarios in a fast-paced, clinical environment. This transformative opportunity includes performing real-world medical procedures such as intubation, offering students a rare, hands-on perspective into advanced healthcare practices and critical problem-solving.

“Watching our students step into simulated clinical roles and problem-solve in real time is incredible,” said Mr. Charles Lowery, Upper School AP Chemistry and Forensic Science Teacher. “The program challenges them to think critically, collaborate, and engage deeply in ways that extend far beyond the classroom.”

The Global Education Program is one of many initiatives at Cooper that extends learning beyond traditional classroom walls, fostering a global mindset and preparing students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

“Programs like MedScience at Harvard exemplify what global education at Cooper is all about— pushing boundaries, cultivating global-mindedness, and empowering students to lead with purpose in any field they pursue,” said Ms. Marivi Mata, Chair of The World Languages Department and Global Education Program Coordinator.

When Cooper students step into real-world settings like Harvard Medical School, they’re not just gaining knowledge—they’re discovering who they are, what they care about, and how they can make a difference. It’s experiences like this that help our Dragons grow into thoughtful, curious, and compassionate leaders, ready to take on the world with purpose and confidence.

The John Cooper School’s mission is to provide a challenging education in a caring environment to a diverse group of select students, enabling them to become critical and creative thinkers, effective communicators, responsible citizens and leaders, and lifelong learners.
