THE WOODLANDS, TX -- In recognition of National Cancer Survivors Day, the Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at The Woodlands hosted its eighth annual Cancer Survivors Day Celebration on Wednesday, June 11. The event brought together survivors and their caregivers to honor life at every stage of the cancer journey, from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and remission.

This year’s theme, “Music, Dance and Hope in Perfect Harmony,” encouraged patients and families to relive the spirit of the 1970s, dancing to timeless hits and creating joyful memories alongside their care teams. The celebration featured heartfelt remarks from Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Krystle Riley, Director of Spiritual Care and Chaplain Randall Trego, and Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer David Bernard.

One of the most moving moments of the evening came from guest speaker and breast cancer survivor Ashley Byers, a member of the hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council. Ashley shared her personal journey with cancer, touching the hearts of patients, families, and staff with her strength, vulnerability and unwavering spirit. Her message reminded everyone in attendance that while cancer may bring uncertainty, it can never diminish hope.

Guests enjoyed an evening filled with reflection, laughter, and inspiration.

“It was an honor to be a part of this year’s Cancer Survivors Celebration and recognize the strength and resilience of our survivors, their families and caregivers,” said David P. Bernard, Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. It always warms my heart to witness the personal connections we make with our patients and their families and hear the stories of inspiration, teamwork and friendship. Moments like these remind us that we are not just treating cancer; we are healing people, building lasting bonds and walking alongside our patients every step of the way. That is what makes our Cancer Center and our hospital such a special place.”

As part of National Cancer Survivors Month, the event underscored Houston Methodist’s commitment to honoring survivorship from the moment of diagnosis. Whether patients are living with cancer, undergoing treatment or in remission, their journey is one of courage, and one worth celebrating.
