THE WOODLANDS, TX – The George & Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library today celebrated its 20th anniversary of expanding the horizons for families all over the area. Currently the only county library open in The Woodlands – the South Library closed earlier this week to move into its new Kevin Brady Center in the Grogan’s Mill Village Center in September – it brought community leaders, celebrities, and residents of all ages to the festivities.

This special milestone was marked with a day full of fun, learning, and community spirit, with activities for all ages, including a community fair, engaging storytime sessions, crafts, and, of course, cake.

The community fair included booths staffed by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Cenikor, Workforce Solutions, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Chick-fil-A Alden Bridge, and The Woodlands Township. Woodlands Township board member Dr. Ann Snyder brought her granddaughter to share special time together, while MCSO Lt. Ken Washington helped keep an eye on things to ensure the Chick-fil-A Cow didn’t cause any problems.

Commissioner Ritch Wheeler braved an audience of dozens of children and their families for a storytime reading; fortunately he came prepared down to his themed necktie and engaging presence.

The library staff asked me to come today to read to the children, and that’s one of the things I truly love to do. I was just talking to one of the moms here and she didn’t know we had two libraries here in The Woodlands and she can’t wait for the revamped South Library to open. I think it’s neat that we have two libraries for the kids – one celebrating twenty years today, and another new and improved one about to open. These are great, indispensable community resources.”

Library staff wanted to assure Woodlands Online readers that books and materials checked out from the South Library location can be returned to the Mitchell Library with no issues.
