THE WOODLANDS, TX - The following events are planned for adults, children, young adults, and their families in January 2020 at George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library, 8125 Ashlane Way, The Woodlands, Texas.

All events take place at the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library:

Computer Classes
Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 2nd , 7th , 9th , and 14th at 9:30am – Microsoft Access (Parts
1-4)

Microsoft Access helps you create database applications to suit your needs. Come learn about tables, queries, forms, and reports with us as we cover the basics of relational databases and how to use them to your advantage.

Friday, January 3rd at 9:30am – Library To Go
Learn how to search for, checkout, and download eBooks, eAudiobooks, TV Shows, Movies, Comics, and more for free from your library. Bring your library card and your devices if you would like a hands-on experience. Tablets (including iPads), smartphones, laptops, and desktop computers can all access these digital files!

Monthly or Bi-Monthly Events at the Library
First Thursday, January 2nd at 2:00pm – Adult Fiction Book Club
Join fellow book lovers for a discussion of Washington Black by Esi Edugyan. Long-listed for the Man Booker Prize, this bildungsroman follows the early life of George Washington “Wash” Black, chronicling his escape from slavery and his subsequent adventures.

First and Third Friday, January 3rd and 17th at 9:30am – Needlecrafts: Knit & Stitch
Crocheters, knitters, embroiderers, quilters, and all textile artists welcome. Bring your own work-in- progress and supplies! Drop by Conference Room 222 on the second floor for inspiration and to meet fellow crafters.

Second and Third Tuesday, January 14th and January 21st at 1:00pm – Adult Writers Group
If you have a writing project you would like to start or a project you want to finish, Mitchell Writers Group might be a source of inspiration for you. Participants discuss each other’s work and offer supportive critique. Come join the fun!

Tuesday, January 14th at 5:30pm– Movie Night – Teens 13-17
Pizza, popcorn, and movie candy will be served. Registration is required.

Third Wednesday, January 15th at 6:30pm – Adult Evening Book Club
Not sure what to read next? Let us pick the book for you! The evening book club reads a mix of fiction and non-fiction selections and meets in Community Room 102 for a lively discussion of the current book. January’s book of choice is Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan, an epic true story of one young man’s incredible courage and resilience during some of the darkest hours of World War II.

Third Thursday, January 16th at 1:00pm – Adult Nonfiction Book Club
Please join us for an enlightening discussion with like-minded nonfiction fans as we discuss Adam Higginbotham’s Midnight in Chernobyl: The Untold Story of the World’s Greatest Nuclear Disaster. This harrowing story of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is a powerful investigation into how propaganda, secrecy, and myth have obscured the truth of one of the twentieth century’s greatest disasters.

Saturday, January 18th from 10:00am-3:00pm - LEGO® Fun – Children 5-12
Children ages 5 -12 are invited to get creative and build anything they choose with lots of Legos. This event is a come-and-go activity and a child must be supervised by an adult.

Tuesday, January 21 st from 5:30-8:00 pm – Gaming Night – Teens 13-17
Teens gather to play games of all kinds, from classic board games to the newest video games. Snacks provided. Registration requested.

Fourth Tuesday, January 28th at 1:30pm – Crafternoons
Join us in Community Room 102 for Crafternoons, an adult-focused craft program for adults and families to express their creativity! Each month will feature free crafts to create and take home, while supplies last. No advanced skills needed; just show up ready to have fun, meet other community members, and create something amazing! All ages welcome, but be aware that crafts are intended for adults. All supplies and instructions provided; no registration needed. We will be making a DIY Wrap Necklace. Happy crafting!

Tuesday, January 28th from 5:30-8:00 pm – D&D Adventurers League – Teens 13-17
New in 2020! Teens gather to play the popular roleplaying game, Dungeons and Dragons. Imagine worlds of sword and sorcery, magic and monsters, brave warriors, and spectacular adventures. Snacks provided. Registration requested.

Last Thursday, January 30th at 1:00pm – Adult Movie Matinee
We invite you to join other fans for popcorn, a drink, and a movie in Community Room 102.

Weekly Events at the Library
Mondays from 10:00am-12:00pm - Tiny Tots Library Play Time – Ages 3 and younger
Join us for a come-and-go Family Place Library weekly event that encourages play with educational toys and board books. Spend time together, play in a playgroup atmosphere, make friends, and visit with other parents.  (*Library will be closed on Monday, January 20th )

Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00am, 10:30am, & 11:00am - Family Storytime – Ages 3
and younger

This story program is for children and a caregiver with an emphasis on stories and activities for toddlers. This program emphasizes early literacy skills and is a great way to meet other families with young children.

Tuesdays at 1:30 pm - School Age Storytime – Ages 4 and up
Children are introduced to new authors and illustrators and develop listening, thinking, participation, literacy, and social skills. ** Children may attend story club by themselves, but a parent or guardian must remain in the library during the program.

New Year’s Day – January 1st - all MCMLS branches closed
Martin Luther King Jr. Day – January 20th - all MCMLS branches closed
