MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Sheriff Doolittle joined local healthcare and community leaders today to celebrate the groundbreaking of a significant expansion at the Montgomery County Mental Health Facility. The project will add 100 additional in-patient beds, addressing the growing demand for mental health care services across the region.

Sheriff Doolittle emphasized the importance of proactive mental health resources in the community, noting that law enforcement officers are too often on the front lines of mental health crises.

County officials emphasized that the Montgomery County Mental Health Facility operates independently from the Montgomery County Jail and is not managed by the Sheriff’s Office. Instead, it functions as part of a comprehensive healthcare network focused on early intervention and treatment.

This expansion is made possible in part by a $50 million grant from the Texas Health and Human Services Mental Health Inpatient Facility Grant Program.

Construction is slated to begin immediately, with the new beds expected to come online in late 2026. Once complete, the upgraded facility will play a pivotal role in providing timely access to mental health care for residents across Montgomery County and beyond.
