WILLIS, TX -- Last week, the Willis Wildkats were surprised by Klein Collins, losing their home opener 42-13. In a game that saw Willis turn the ball over 5 times throughout the game and struggle to get anything going on offense, Willis will need to recoup and fix whatever happened last week. Caney Creek, a team that has struggled to start the season, is their opponent this week, who Willis will look to rebound against coming into district play.

The Willis Wildkats Need to Get Their Offense Going

After what happened last week, Willis aims to move past it and focus on improving the areas that caused issues in their tough loss to Klein Collins. Jermaine Bishop Jr., one of the bright spots in last Friday’s game, plans to continue being the offensive leader and take them to the next level. Bishop scored 1 of Willis’s 2 touchdowns and gained solid yardage, even though the offense struggled. QB Lincoln Frazier will look to bounce back from a difficult game last week, where he turned the ball over three times. The defense also needs to step up significantly since they couldn’t stop Klein Collins last week, allowing them to run all over them. For Willis to win this game, they need more offensive snaps, as last week’s turnovers and poor run defense killed their chances to score — these issues must be fixed. If they can improve in those areas, Willis will be a strong team for the rest of district play.

The Caney Creek Panthers, Still Trying to Find Their Identity

Coming into this game, Caney Creek has only managed to score a mere 7 points across their 2 games. That lone score came from a 91-yard touchdown by QB Christian Aguilar against Waller in the first quarter. Aside from that, Caney Creek has struggled to put points on the board, getting shut out for 7 straight quarters after that initial score. Caney Creek's defense resembles a revolving door, allowing over 45 points a game and doing little else. This team won’t be making much noise in the district, but this is football, and you never know which way the ball will bounce on any given Friday.

Final Thoughts and Predictions

Unfortunately for Caney Creek, they will have to face a hungry Willis team that needs a win going into district play. Willis still looks formidable on offense and defense with all those offensive weapons like Bishop and Martin, both of whom dominate on both sides of the ball. Caney Creek might have a tall task ahead if they want to start district with a win, but ultimately, it seems like the Willis Wildkats will give them a tough challenge all night.
