Lone Star College System to host Veteran Services Summit

HOUSTON, TX -- Veterans make up nearly 5% of the student population at Lone Star College System, where they have access to comprehensive services tailored to their unique needs. An upcoming Veteran Services Career & Resource Summit will connect veterans to potential employers and other helpful resources.
The event will be held Oct. 16 at LSC-Kingwood from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in partnership with NextOp, a Houston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to recruiting, developing and placing high-performing veterans into industry careers.
“Lone Star College System is here to ensure our hard-working veteran students have the support they need to get to the next level, whether that’s workforce training, transferring credits to a four-year university, earning a degree or starting a new career,” said Vickie Johnson, LSCS executive director, Veteran Services. “We are proud to partner with NextOp and veteran-friendly employers to help our students find the opportunities that are right for them.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with employers seeking to hire veterans, get career advice from a panel of experts, have their resumes reviewed on-site, and speak with veteran service providers.
Houston Fire Department, Houston Police Department, Butler Weldments, Shell Mobility & Convenience and several other companies will be on-site to meet with job-seeking veterans.
LSCS Veteran Services was recently awarded the 2025 Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Gold Award, recognizing the system’s excellence in veteran student support. The Veteran Services team helps students navigate educational benefits and offers specialized support through academic advising, mental health services, career services and more.
