Montgomery County Pipeline Worker Arrested for Alleged $100K Investment Fraud Scheme, Authorities Say

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- In May 2025, Constable Ryan Gable’s Criminal Investigations Division began investigating Michael Coby Brown, who worked for a pipeline construction firm in Montgomery County, Texas. For over a year, Brown is alleged to have fabricated a major oil pipeline replacement project that was set to begin in early 2025. It is alleged that during this time, Brown convinced multiple people to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in expectation of this project. Earlier this year, as the launch date neared, it was revealed that the pipeline project did not exist, and Brown had allegedly deceived both his employer and investors about its reality. As a result, Brown was terminated from his position, and the matter was reported to the Montgomery County Pct. 3 Constable’s Office.
In September 2025, a Financial Crimes Detective from Pct. 3 gathered substantial probable cause through a thorough investigation and secured an arrest warrant for Brown on charges of Fraudulent Securing of Document Execution, a first degree felony. After learning of the warrant, Brown, residing in Rusk, TX, voluntarily turned himself in to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked into their jail.
ALL SUSPECTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW
