THE WOODLANDS, TX – October 25 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. According to John Sundt, founder of ‘NaturalHigh.org,’ an organization bringing drug awareness to parents, this is your chance to clear out unused or expired medications and keep them out of the wrong hands.

Shenandoah PD available for ‘National Take Back Day’

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), most teens who misuse prescription drugs get them from family or friends, often straight out of the medicine cabinet.

The good news? Parents make a big difference. Teens who learn about the risks of drugs at home are up to 50% less likely to use them. Yet 78% of teens say they’ve never talked with their parents about the dangers of abusing prescription drugs. Sundt encourages you to talk openly with your kids. A simple conversation can help them understand the risks and feel supported in making healthy choices.

To partake in Take Back Day, take two simple steps: Clean out your cabinets and gather unused or expired medications, then drop them off at a nearby safe disposal site on October 25 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.. The Shenandoah Police Department is the most local site for the majority of Woodlanders – Tomball PD also will accept on the day. Shenandoah PD is located at 29955 I-45 North in Shenandoah, north of Research Blvd.
