Wanted Fugitive Arrested After 11-Mile High-Speed Chase on SH 99 in Montgomery County
SPRING, TX -- On December 30, 2025, deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office East Command Hot Spot Unit successfully apprehended a wanted fugitive following a multi-agency high-speed pursuit.
While patrolling State Highway 99, deputies observed a white Dodge pickup truck traveling westbound. The driver was identified as 43-year-old Fred Shugart, an individual known to law enforcement who had active warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and a warrant issued by the Texas Department of Pardons and Paroles.
Upon confirming the driver’s identity, deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Valley Ranch Parkway. Shugart refused to yield to emergency lights and sirens, instead accelerating westbound on SH 99 and initiating a pursuit.
The pursuit spanned approximately 11 miles, during which Shugart led deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers on a high-speed chase. The pursuit concluded when Shugart exited the freeway at Riley Fuzzel and his vehicle became inoperable on the feeder road.
Shugart was taken into custody swiftly and without further incident. In addition to his existing warrants, Shugart now faces new charges for Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle. He has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
