April’s the best month to keep your current car running smoothly

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Historically and statistically, April is widely considered the worst month to buy a car due to a perfect storm of high demand, inflated prices, and reduced negotiation leverage. On top of the Tax Month lull that comes each April, current market conditions in 2026 represent one of the worst times (in what seems like forever) to buy a new car due to record-high pricing, limited inventory, and high interest rates that have not yet normalized.

Data from iSeeCars indicates that April through June offer significantly fewer deals – up to 30% fewer – than the annual average. Additionally, the impending high school and college graduation seasons prompt parents to buy cars as gifts, further driving up prices for popular models.

This year makes for a particularly tough time to purchase a new set of wheels. New vehicle transaction prices have risen nearly $12,000 over the past five years, with inflation remaining significantly higher than 2019 levels; used cars remain nearly $9,000 above their 2018 averages. While some data suggests used car inflation has cooled since late 2022, the overall market remains difficult for buyers, with many experts noting that prices may get worse before they get better until inventory normalizes and rates drop.

With all these factors in mind, you can take the issue of the worst time to buy a new car and turn it into a golden opportunity to repair, upgrade, and maintain your current set of wheels. With just a few simple tweaks, you can keep your present ride in top condition until after the summer break and you’re back into buyer’s territory at the nearest dealership.

Fortunately, The Woodlands area has some expert auto repair, upgrade, and maintenance businesses to help you along and to keep your wallet relatively fat. We have three such places in particular that we feel would work best for you and your family transportation needs.

First off is Bespoke Auto Pros, who goes beyond everyday auto care and provides top-notch upgrade services. Owned by Jason Huckabay, the shop distinguishes itself with a high-end customer experience featuring a showroom lounge with a racing simulator and a full bar. While their primary focus is aesthetic protection and enhancement, they also offer mobile service options and are actively expanding, with a second location planned for Hwy 105 in later this year.
