MCSO Identifies and Arrests Porter Man for Hit and Run Fatality
PORTER, TX -- The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives have identified and arrested 35-year-old Jeremy Michael Buckner in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that occurred earlier this week on U.S. Highway 59.
On May 7, 2026, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were requested by the Splendora Police Department to investigate a deceased male found alongside U.S. Highway 59. The victim was later identified as Gary Belvin. Initial findings indicated that Mr. Belvin had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.
Since responding to the initial call, Major Crimes Detectives have worked around the clock to gather evidence, identify the suspect, and locate Buckner. Their efforts led to his arrest today.
Buckner is currently in custody at the Montgomery County Jail and has been charged with Collision Involving Injury or Death, a Second-Degree Felony.
Sheriff Wesley Doolittle stated, “I am incredibly proud to work alongside the dedicated men and women of our Major Crimes Unit. This case reflects the relentless commitment our detectives bring to every investigation. We will not rest until justice is served for victims and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Belvin family as they grieve. We hope this arrest brings them a small amount of peace.”
