Come rain or high water, graduations going ahead as planned
THE WOODLANDS, TX – With the chances of rain already on the horizon – literally and figuratively – and the forecast predicting practically nonstop thunderstorms throughout the week, the weather is threatening to put a damper on the remaining high school graduation commencement ceremonies for the area school districts.
Woodlands Online reached out to representatives of the local districts to confirm the status of graduation ceremonies should they take place during a storm.
For Conroe ISD, the four remaining graduation ceremonies – Conroe High School on May 18 at 7:30 p.m., The Woodlands College Park High School on May 19 at 7:30 p.m., The Woodlands High School on May 20 at 7:30 p.m., and Grand Oaks High School on May 21 at 7:30 p.m. are still all slated to be held at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Woodlands Online encourages attendees to bring waterproof rain gear and get there early to lessen the chances of being stuck on the open lawn.
For Tomball ISD Schools, the ceremonies for both Tomball High School on May 22 at 8:00 a.m. and Tomball Memorial High School at 12:00 p.m. the same day will remain at Reed Arena in College Station, due to it being a covered venue. The two Magnolia ISD schools holding celebrations – Magnolia West on May 23 at 4:00 p.m. and Magnolia High School on May 23 at 8:00 p.m. – are likewise being held at Reed Arena and remain unaffected by the weather.
The two high schools in Montgomery ISD, Lake Creek High School and Montgomery High School, are also holding their graduation ceremonies – May 19 at 6:00 p.m. and May 20 at 6:00 p.m. – in a closed-roof facility at Johnson Coliseum at Sam Houston State University.
In the private school arena, The John Cooper School’s planned ceremony for May 22 at 10:00 a.m. inside the campus’ Dunlap Gym, remains unaffected by the weather.
That being said, especially for the ceremonies planned for the Pavilion, we encourage you to stay tuned to Woodlands Online for weather updates and changes in venue.
