THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Streets are a key part of our stormwater drainage system — they're designed to "pond" during heavy rains (>1 inch/hour), giving the system extra capacity. This allows water to drain gradually as opposed to a massive flush, reducing the risk of flash floods downstream. That’s what’s occurring in the photo above. Some areas of The Woodlands received up to 4 inches in one hour last Tuesday.

We all play an important role in this process by keeping storm drains free of clogging debris, like yard trimmings, that can generate localized flooding. And please remind your yard crew of this.

It's also the law — TCEQ prohibits putting anything other than clean water into storm drains. Fines may apply.

If you see a blocked inlet or culvert or an unusual pile-up of water, please let us know. Call us with the location of the blockage and we'll send staff over as soon as it’s safe. 855-H20-SAVE (426-7283).
