Conroe ISD Announces Closure for Wednesday, September 2 Due to Tropical Storm Edouard

CONROE, TX -- Following a meeting with the National Weather Service and Montgomery County Emergency Management, Conroe Independent School District officials announced that the district will be closed Wednesday, September 2, due to the anticipated impacts of Tropical Storm Edouard.

The latest forecast indicates that Tropical Storm Edouard is strengthening and is expected to move farther into the Conroe ISD area Wednesday, bringing the potential for significant weather impacts across the district.

As a result, all Conroe ISD schools and district offices will be closed Wednesday, September 2. All after-school activities are also canceled.

Conroe ISD officials emphasized that weather conditions can vary significantly throughout the district, which spans approximately 348 square miles. While some areas may experience relatively minor impacts, other communities could see heavy rainfall, flooding, power outages and hazardous road conditions.

The district must also consider the safety of its employees, including bus drivers, teachers and staff members who commute from areas that could experience more severe weather conditions.

“We understand that closing schools can create challenges for our families and employees, and we do not make this decision lightly,” district officials said. “We appreciate your understanding as we make the best decision we can for the safety of our entire Conroe ISD community.”

Conroe ISD will continue monitoring Tropical Storm Edouard and changing weather conditions. The district will provide an update regarding school operations for Thursday, September 3, as soon as more information is available.
