SPRING, TX -- Emma-Jean, the 2027 Miss Yellow Rose State Ultimate USA Princess, will trade her crown for an apron this Friday as she volunteers alongside Team Members at TEAM Café, a Spring-area café providing vocational training and meaningful real-world experiences for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As part of her platform, Emma-Jean is committed to working with and supporting people with special needs, making her time at TEAM Café much more than a volunteer appearance. It is an opportunity for the young titleholder to put her platform into action while helping shine a light on the abilities, contributions and potential of people with disabilities.Emma-Jean will be at TEAM Café on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., greeting customers, helping the café crew and encouraging members of the community to stop in for lunch while supporting a mission built around inclusion, independence and opportunity. Her visit is especially timely because October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to recognize the contributions of workers with disabilities and promote meaningful, inclusive employment opportunities.“At TEAM Abilities, we know our Team Members thrive when they have opportunities to be productive, learn new skills and participate in the everyday life of their community,” said Rachel Jelks, Founder & CEO for TEAM Abilities and Owner of TEAM Cafe. “TEAM Café gives them a place to practice those skills in a real-world environment while building confidence and experiencing the pride that comes from contributing.”TEAM Café combines food service with hands-on vocational training. Team Members have opportunities to learn and practice skills involving food preparation, customer service, communication, organization, teamwork and workplace responsibility. For Emma-Jean, those opportunities align naturally with the purpose behind her title and platform.“Emma believes kindness is something you DO,” Jelks said, who is also mother to Miss Emma-Jean. “She isn't simply talking about inclusion—she wants to participate, build relationships and work right alongside our Team Members. We are thrilled to have her spend part of her Friday with us.”The public is invited to stop by during Emma-Jean's visit, enjoy lunch or a treat, meet the TEAM Café crew and see firsthand what can happen when people of all abilities are given meaningful opportunities to participate and contribute.“Employment and vocational training are about so much more than earning a paycheck,” Jelks added. “They are about purpose, confidence, independence and belonging. Everyone deserves the opportunity to discover what they can do and to know that what they contribute matters.”EVENT DETAILS2027 Miss Yellow Rose State Ultimate USA Princess Emma-Jean Volunteers at TEAM CaféFriday | 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.TEAM Café21127 Spring Towne Dr.Spring, TX 77388Good Food • Great People • One TEAMABOUT TEAM CAFÉTEAM Café is where good food meets a greater purpose.
