THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Students of all ages from Conroe and The Woodlands attended the annual “Rep Ur School” event at the Tabernacle of Praise Non-Denominational church on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Youth proudly represented Oak Ridge Elementary, Houser, York Junior High, Dolly Vogel, Oak Ridge High School, The Woodlands High School and Lonestar-Montgomery College.

Self proclaimed “kool kid” and youth minister Marquist Taylor shared his personal story and warned the kids about the consequences of “goofing off” in school. He explained that growing up as a pastor’s son he often encountered difficulties, had to overcome being stereotyped and learn to be himself. His personal testimony laid the foundation for others to open up about the challenges faced by today’s youth. They talked about labels, cliques and the importance of the people you surround yourself with.

Music Minister Maci Perry quizzed the youth on everything from their school mascots to school vacation days and math problems. Maci Perry says, “events like this help us get to know the kids and give them the strength to be who they are instead of just following the crowd”.

The Tabernacle of Praise youth leaders proudly announced their new tutoring program that is currently being developed and expected to be unveiled this winter. When asked about the purpose of “Rep Ur School” Pastor J.L. Perry said, “kids of all ages are affected by the same things from bullies to peer pressure, we want to give them more than just school supplies. We want to give advice for dealing with these situations and empower them with all the tools they need to be successful.”

Tabernacle of Praise Non-Denominational church borders Conroe and The Woodlands off Hwy 242 and invites you to come as you are. The Tabernacle of Praise mission statement is to “reach the unreachable, love the unlovable and to accept you where you are”. Service times are Sunday’s at 11:30 am, Thursday’s at 7:30 pm and youth service Saturday’s at 7:30 pm. For more information, please email at the link below.
