Building Parenting Skills Cradle to College

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Parents often wish kids came with a training manual. Parents consistently find themselves at a loss or moments of inadequacy whether it is a crying baby, worries over protecting your child from harm in school, on the internet or even with a cell phone or recognizing when things aren't right and you aren't sure where to turn for help. Christ Church United Methodist is responding to this need for parents to feel empowered, informed and confident by sponsoring a community-wide Parenting Conference titled 'Parent Training Camp; Building Skills from Cradle to College' on Saturday, September 12 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Something for Parents with Kids of All Ages

'This conference will educate parents of children who are newborns to those enrolling in college,' says Deborah Raley, Director of Marketing and Special Events for Christ Church. 'Debra Kimbrough is our keynote speaker and we will have breakout sessions targeting specific age groups and led by local professionals for parents to choose from'.

Break out session topics include everything from colicky babies and picky eaters to preventing cyber bullies, sexting, and recognizing depression in children. There are professionals on hand to share developmental red flags to look for in your child whether that child is in preschool through high school as well as how to teach your children financial responsibility through age-appropriate chores. For parents (or soon to be parents) concerned about how to invest for their child's future, speakers will be on hand to walk you through a few simple strategies they can begin now.

The conference is $20 for an individual or $25 for a couple. Child care during the conference is available for a fee and with required pre-registration. A continental breakfast is included for all participants. Participants will receive handouts and information sheets from all of the presenters. The conference is open to parents, grandparents, child care workers, anyone interested in learning more about who to support the overall development of children in our community and in your home.

Registration for the conference is currently underway. Interested persons can register for the conference and/or child care online at the the CCUM Web site and click on the Parenting Conference link. Child care spaces are limited and must be registered by September 4.

Sponsorships for the conference are currently being accepted. Local businesses interested in being a part of the Parent Training Camp conference can contact Deborah Raley.

Christ Church United Methodist is located at 6363 Research Forest Drive next door to The Woodlands High School. For more information about the Parent Training Camp Conference or for a growing and detailed list of break out sessions please visit the Christ Church Web site (cc-um.org).
