THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Chimes will ring out at The Woodlands United Methodist Church at exactly 8:30 a.m. (CST) Friday, December 21, 2012 as part of the nationwide memorial following the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut last Friday morning.

TWUMC bells chime for shooting victims

The church bells will toll 26 times, representing the 26 students, teachers and principal who lost their lives one week ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Town Center-area residents and anyone within hearing distance of the bells are asked to pause in a moment of silence and prayer as part of the special tribute.

“We humbly join this observance as the nation grieves the loss of innocent lives in Newtown, Connecticut,” said Dr. Edmund W. Robb, III, Senior Pastor at The Woodlands UMC. “Let us stand together in faith and pray for the families of the victims. We pray for healing, for comfort, and for hope to be restored in that community.”

The Woodlands United Methodist Church is one of hundreds across the country participating in the observance at the request of Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy. Malloy made the request for churches to honor victims of the shootings during a news conference on Monday, December 17, 2012.
