THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Covenant United Methodist Church, one of the newest churches worshiping in The Woodlands, recently celebrated the first anniversary of its weekly worship services. More than 150 members and guests were on hand to experience the milestone for this growing church, which meets at the Creekside YMCA (6464 Creekside Forest Dr., Spring, TX 77389).

“We incorporated traditional birthday elements, like balloons, the birthday song, etc., with some unique things, like cake pops for the children and a birthday time capsule,” said Reverend Jason Burnham, founding pastor of Covenant UMC. “We wanted to celebrate--and remember--the first of what will be many birthdays ahead. We are excited about our growing congregation, and we're even more excited about the vision for Covenant, which is to be a community connected in Christ.”

Covenant UMC launched weekly worship services in January 2012, with 10 a.m. contemporary services.

“Covenant is uniquely positioned,” said Burnham of the growing church. “Geographically, we couldn’t be in a better spot. There is so much growth in north Spring, Tomball, as well as the southern part of The Woodlands. Being one of the only places of worship in the Village of Creekside Park certainly doesn’t hurt, either.”

While the church doesn’t own land yet, there are plans to purchase property in proximity of the Village of Creekside Park. In the meantime, said Burnham, worshippers at Covenant are excited about the advantages of being a “portable church.”

“It gives us time to dream and to discern God’s will for our congregation,” added Burnham. “God has provided a virtual blank slate for Covenant. I feel so excited—so blessed—to be on this journey of faith with our growing number of worshippers.”
