THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Students in Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Human Services Student Organization collected eight boxes of children’s books for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Montgomery County (CASA). These books will help restore CASA’s nearly depleted current library of books, which is used by children and teens in the foster care system in Montgomery County.

CASA is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children who have been removed from their parents and are under the court's jurisdiction. Advocates will use the new or slightly used books to help support these children.

The Human Services Student Organization was developed three years ago to provide an opportunity for students within the program to network with one another, promote the field of human services on campus, and provide opportunities for students to serve the local community. It’s a student-led club within the LSC-Montgomery’s human services program, a workforce-based program designed to prepare students to serve others with emotional, behavioral, vocational, and substance-abuse problems.
