THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- On Saturday, June 8th from 10am-3pm at The South Montgomery County Community Center, area residents will travel to Great Britain via The Friendship Center’s Annual British Bazaar, a Meals On Wheels fundraiser.

Annual celebration of Meals On Wheels program’s British origins welcomes all ages for a unique event benefiting the program

Celebrating the British origins of The Meals On Wheels program, the event attracts community members of all ages for a lively event including a British bake Sale, Irish dancing, children’s games and crafts, trivia, prize drawings, and a tea room. New this year to the event is a free autograph session with a British Player from The Houston Dynamo Major League Soccer team, the “Ask a Master Gardener” room, and The Mini Experience.

“We are ecstatic to have The Houston Dynamo involved in this year’s event” said Anna Claire Croghan, Executive Director of The Friendship Center. “Soccer, or Football as they call it in Great Britain, is a national pastime there and an equally enjoyed sport by families in our community.”

The Meals On Wheels program originated in Great Britain during the Blitz when The Women’s Volunteer Service for Civil Defense took up the responsibility of delivering meals to families who had lost their homes due to bombings. The program evolved to serve the homebound elderly in need and was started in The United States in 1954.

There is no entry fee for the event and Houston Dynamo player autographs, “Ask a Master Gardener,” and The Mini Experience are all free of charge. For more details, visit www.facebook.com/thebritishbazaar.
