THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- When tragedy struck the small town of Moore, Oklahoma, hundreds of families instantly lost everything they owned. For some, more than just homes or personal belongings were lost. During such a sudden and violent storm many pets didn’t make it to safety with their families, or worse, were ripped from their owners arms by the storm. Homes can be rebuilt, belongings can be replaced, but nothing can take away the helpless feeling of not knowing where your four-legged friend is after such a life changing tragedy.

Barker Street Gourmet Dog Bakery and Boutique and My Family Vet initiate the 'dog bowl of caring.'

In the days following the tornado dogs and cats roamed the streets and rubble - many looking for their homes that were no longer there. As help for the people arrived it became apparent that much help was needed for the animals as well. The small animal shelter was quickly overwhelmed and a temporary shelter was established at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds in nearby Norman, Oklahoma.

When Aaron Ogden, owner of Barker Street Dog Bakery, saw the devastation on the news he knew there had to be a way to help. After teaming up with local animal rescues and a local veterinary clinic, My Family Vet, Barker Street put out a plea to its customers and fans asking for their support. Over the next week, donations came pouring in and grew to be more than the original transport team had room for. Barker Street made arrangements to deliver the supplies personally.

“Our donation drive was amazing!" Ogden said. "We gathered so much stuff for our neighbors to the north that we had to get a trailer and take the stuff up there ourselves. The long drive that was totally worth it when we pulled up and volunteers were speechless."

Barker Street Dog Bakery is a family owned business driven by their love for animals and desire to help those in need. We consider all our customers family and in times of need we love that so many show their support as well.

Ogden and his wife, Tanya, are also the founders of Guardian Pit Bull Rescue here in the Woodlands. Their Guardian family wanted to make a contribution as well and they were able to donate a stack of food on behalf of Guardian Pit Bull Rescue.

“We are so glad to be part of a community that truly cares about animals in need," Ogden said.
