THE WOODLANDS, TX – Tongues were wagging recently at the Houston City Place Marriott’s holiday happy hour fundraiser benefiting local rescue group Operation Pets Alive.

The inaugural ‘Christmas Tail,’ a gingerbread doghouse contest and auction, drew dozens of supporters to the festively festooned lobby, where incredible and edible submissions were featured from Kandikakes Bakery, Lucky Dog Mobile Groomers, and Jessica Courtney with Operation Pets Alive & PetSmart, plus City Place’s Common Bond Bistro & Bakery, Star Cinema Grill, SwitcHouse Plates & Pours, and Oiler Studio. All seven were quickly snatched up by bidders eager to bring the houses home.

Besides Operation Pets Alive, the big winner of the evening was locally-based pastry chef and Kandikakes Bakery owner Kandice Douglas, who not only took home the judge’s and people’s choice awards but also the incredible raffle package stuffed with goodies. Common Bond’s doggie chalet and Star Cinema’s Grill’s Barbie-inspired doggie dreamhouse were close runners up.

The event continues a series of happenings celebrating the hotel’s fifth anniversary, and guests toasted over ginger mimosas, the Naughty & Nice, plus glasses of milk paired with cookies.
