CONROE, Texas – Katie Willard, a senior on The Woodlands High School girls’ track and field team, was recognized at the June 18 Conroe Independent School District Board meeting for winning the 2013 State 5A 800-meter run at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 11.

Willard was defending her Class 5A 800-meter state title, and she clocked a personal best at 2 minutes and 9.32 seconds.

Initially she was in seventh place, but she moved to third by the 200-meter mark. With only 300 meters to go, she claimed first place, for the second year in a row.

The Woodlands High School Principal, Greg Colschen, introduced this talented and deserving young woman and her coach, Noel Hansen, to the Board of Trustees.

“To be able to coach her for four years was really an honor,” Hansen said. “It is very difficult to repeat any athlete endeavor in this state, and she did it humbly.”
