TWHS World Guard named World Champions, receive proclamation from The Woodlands Township
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands High School’s World Guard recently celebrated its world championship win in Dayton, Ohio, receiving the gold medal with a score of 98.0 and winning by a wide margin of 3.5 points, and being the first Texas guard to earn this title in the history of the Winter Guard International Scholastic World Championships.
Beyond the trophy, bragging rights, and pride in their accomplishment, the ladies, under the direction of Cynthia Robbins with assistance from Joseph Danforth and Tiffany Quinstein, were presented with an official proclamation by The Woodlands Township Board of Directors. The document proclaimed May 22 of this year as The Woodlands High School World Guard Day.
The proclamation pointed out significant milestones in the guard’s history, including:
- Appearances in the Winter Guard International finals dating back to 2003
- Promotion to the most advanced level of competition, Scholastic World Class in 2016
- Being a consistent top 5 finalist since 2021
- Being the first Texas high school to medal in Scholastic World Class with bronze medals in 2022 and 2024
At the presentation event, which took place at the monthly meeting for The Woodlands Township, the team was there along with Robbins, Danforth, and Quinstein. Brad Bailey, chairman of the Board of Directors, read out the proclamation in front of a packed room with many parents there in support. The entire team came to the front to be recognized as the team was presented with the Proclamation.
Nicola Thomas and Samantha Chefas, the official liaisons with the guard, talked with Woodlands Online about some of the comments made at the celebration. “We are so proud of each and every one of the girls; this was a fairy tale ending for the team. We could not have done any of this without our amazing directors. The lessons and advice that the girls have received being a part of this team will benefit them through their adult life.”
