THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Legions of volunteers will spread out in The Woodlands this Saturday, October 12 to serve seniors in the community in a program by the same name. The ’Serving Our Seniors' (S.O.S.), service program aids elderly residents with various projects they’re physically unable to do.

Originated by Interfaith of The Woodlands, members of philanthropic organizations, employees of local corporations, and residents, have been participating in the 9-year program initiated in 2005.

“This is just one of the many ways Interfaith gives back to the community,” said Keith Weaver of The Woodlands Township, who spearheads the project, supervising the contractors and working with Interfaith who coordinates the volunteer organizations.

Volunteer organizations include Interact, The Rotary Club’s youth organization, the National Charity League, and numerous corporate and company volunteer teams. The volunteers will be giving senior’s yards a complete make-over, mowing, weeding, raking leaves, dead tree debris removal, and cleaning gutters.

Interfaith President and CEO, Dr. Ann Snyder, typically makes a presence, personally thanking the volunteer organizations.

In addition to the NCL, other volunteers working throughout The Woodlands represented Interact, the Rotary Club’s youth organization which is comprised of students from College Park and The Woodlands High School, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic parish, the Lord of Life Congregation, the Woodlands LaCrosse team, Power Fastpitch Softball, and more.

Last year the volunteers worked at 26 homes and 20 apartments in The Woodlands, which also included light housework, and even cleaning bar-b-ques.

Some of the seniors provide the volunteers refreshments, which are greatly appreciated but not required.

The ‘Serving Our Seniors’ program is hosted twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall, when the weather is projected to be the most pleasant. For more information about the S.O.S. project, call Interfaith of The Woodlands.
